Hamas insists it will only disarm after Israel pulls back to the October 2025 ceasefire line — leaving the two sides at a standoff even as the plan is hailed internationally as historic.

Scripture Reflection

For two thousand years the Psalmist’s charge has stood: “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem” (Psalm 122:6). Every brokered ceasefire in that land is worth genuine hope and prayer — real people, on every side, are weary of war. Scripture is also candid that no negotiated peace in this present age will be final. Paul warned that “when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them” (1 Thessalonians 5:3) — not a reason for cynicism, but a reason to keep our hope anchored higher than any treaty, in the Prince of Peace himself (Isaiah 9:6).

Scripture repeatedly describes history moving toward a final, singular world authority (Daniel 2:44; Revelation 13:7–8) — but it also warns believers not to hang that label on every new institution that comes along. Antichrists, John wrote, “have gone out into the world” in every age (1 John 4:1–3). The wise response to any body claiming to broker peace over many nations is neither alarm nor applause, but discernment — watching where power concentrates, while trusting that “the kingdoms of this world” ultimately “become the kingdoms of our Lord” (Revelation 11:15), not any council of men.

Numbers 19 describes ashes of a heifer “without spot, wherein is no blemish” used to purify Israel from the defilement of death — a ritual with no equal in the ancient world, and one the writer of Hebrews points directly to Christ: “How much more shall the blood of Christ... purge your conscience from dead works” (Hebrews 9:13–14). Whether or not a qualifying heifer is ever found, the pattern itself preaches: the old system could only manage impurity temporarily; only one sacrifice, offered once, actually removes it (Hebrews 10:10).

Scripture Reflection

Jesus, standing on that same Temple Mount, told his disciples plainly that “there shall not be left here one stone upon another” (Matthew 24:2) — and then, a few verses later, spoke of “the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place” (Matthew 24:15), language that presumes a functioning Temple exists again. We hold that loosely and carefully; good, careful Christians have read the timing of these passages differently for two thousand years. What isn’t in dispute is this: Jerusalem remains exactly where Scripture said the eyes of the nations would keep returning (Zechariah 12:2–3).

A Brutal Year of Earthquakes — But Not, Scientists Say, an Unusual One

The Facts

2026 has been genuinely deadly: a pair of quakes (7.2 and 7.5) struck Venezuela in June, 39 seconds apart, killing more than 6,300 people; a 7.8 off Mindanao killed over 100; a 7.4 in Colombia in August killed 250 more. Yet USGS data shows 2026’s count of magnitude-7+ quakes (11 by mid-August) sits at or slightly below the 15–18 yearly average of the past decade. Geophysicists at UCLA and elsewhere are explicit: “There’s no convincing evidence that earthquakes are becoming more frequent globally.”

Scripture Reflection

We report that carefully because Scripture doesn’t need exaggeration to make its point. Jesus said there would be “earthquakes, in divers places” as part of what he called “the beginning of sorrows” (Matthew 24:7–8) — not that they would spike statistically before the end, simply that they would keep happening, grief after grief, until he returns. Paul’s words fit this year precisely: “The whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now” (Romans 8:22). Thousands of families in Caracas, Cebu, and Cauca are living that groan tonight. That calls for our prayers and our giving — not our statistics.

Ezekiel names Persia — the ancient name for Iran — among the nations that march against Israel in a great end-times conflict (Ezekiel 38:5). Bible students have pointed to Iran in this connection for decades, through multiple wars, revolutions, and now this one, and it’s worth saying plainly: none of those earlier moments were it, and this may not be either. What Ezekiel does promise, when that battle finally comes, is not ambiguous: “They shall know that I am the LORD” (Ezekiel 38:23). Every real conflict involving Persia is a reminder to keep watching — and to keep our confidence in the outcome, not the timeline.

Ezekiel 38 names a coalition against Israel led by “Gog, of the land of Magog” together with Persia, and Gomer and Togarmah — names many futurist interpreters, including within this ministry’s own teaching, have long associated with the Russia–Iran–Turkey region specifically. We say this with real caution: identifying ancient place names with modern nations is interpretation, not prophecy fulfilled in real time, and every generation has been tempted to force the headlines onto the map too neatly. What we can say without hedging is what the chapter says happens next — the LORD himself intervenes, “and I will magnify myself, and sanctify myself, and I will be known in the eyes of many nations” (Ezekiel 38:23).

Jesus told his followers plainly, “ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake” (Matthew 24:9), and Paul made it a rule rather than an exception: “all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3:12). John saw the martyrs under the altar crying “How long, O Lord” (Revelation 6:9–10) — a question our persecuted family in Nigeria, Syria, North Korea, and dozens of other nations is still asking tonight. These are not abstractions on a list. They are 388 million reasons to pray by name, give where we can, and remember, per Hebrews 13:3, those in bonds “as bound with them.”

Revelation describes a future system in which “no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark” (Revelation 13:16–17) — a single, universal, identity-linked gate on commerce. We want to be careful and honest here: no digital wallet or biometric passport system in operation today is that system, and Christians have wrongly cried “this is it” about new technology many times before, always prematurely. What’s worth simply noticing, without alarm, is that the infrastructure Revelation describes — identity, biometrics, and money converging into one interoperable rail — is being built in plain sight, piece by piece, for entirely ordinary reasons. “Watch therefore” (Matthew 24:42) was never a command to panic. It was a command to stay awake.

Those four place names aren’t incidental — they’re where the patriarchs actually walked. Hebron is where Abraham bought a field to bury Sarah (Genesis 23); Shechem is where God first told Abram, “Unto thy seed will I give this land” (Genesis 12:6–7); Shiloh housed the tabernacle for centuries. The prophets described a day when Israel would be regathered and replanted in that same land “no more to be pulled up out of their land” (Amos 9:15). A parliamentary resolution isn’t that fulfillment — but it’s one more thread in a two-thousand-year story of a scattered people returning to a very specific piece of ground Scripture named first.

Scripture Reflection

The Accords were named, deliberately, for the patriarch both Jews and Arabs claim as their own — “Abraham believed God... and he was called the Friend of God” (James 2:23). Isaiah pictured a day when Israel, Egypt, and Assyria — ancient enemies — would be called together “my people” and “the work of my hands” in the same verse (Isaiah 19:24–25). No treaty between nations accomplishes that reconciliation; only the gospel truly does, tearing down “the middle wall of partition” between peoples (Ephesians 2:14). But when old enemies sign their names next to each other, however slowly and imperfectly, it’s hard not to hear an echo of what Isaiah saw.

Scripture Reflection

The prophet Daniel was told to “shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased” (Daniel 12:4) — a strange verse to write in an age of oxen and scrolls, and an oddly precise description of ours. We hold it with an open hand: “knowledge increasing” is also just what every generation since the printing press has experienced in its own way. Still, Solomon’s older warning fits any century that trusts its own cleverness a little too much: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge” (Proverbs 1:7). Whatever comes from these machines, wisdom was never going to be one of their outputs.
